The Winter Solstice, also known as Alban Arthan, the Yuletide and other names. Solstice is derived from two Latin words; "Sol" which means Sun and "Sistere" for Stand Still. The Sun Stands Still. The day of the Solstice varies from year to year, falling anywhere from December 20th to the 23rd. This year the Sun will Stand Still on December 21st. Because it is the longest night of the year, celebrations involve lights and fires. It is also a night of eating, drinking and making merry. All the things that keep us warm. It is the night when the Holly King dies as the Oak King rises, and Wren surrenders to Robin. So gather around the Fire with Holly and Mistletoe, dancing with Moon and Sun. Be sure to look for Fairies. Play songs about Winter and Fire, the Sun and the Moon, Day and Night, Dark and Light, Food and Drink, Birds and Trees, Magic and Fairies, and whatever else comes to mind. And if you'd rather post songs about warmer times, we'll pretend you live in the Southern Hemisphere. It's always an open thread at The Triple V, so just play some good tunes. Please Recommend!
